Nur Mohammad, the rickshaw driver who carried wounded student Golam Nafiz during the July Uprising of 2024, became part of one of the movement’s most iconic moments. His courage and humanity in the face of violence reflect the resilience and sacrifice of ordinary citizens during Bangladesh’s struggle for democracy and justice.

Summary

During the July Uprising of 2024 in Bangladesh, one photograph came to symbolize the chaos, courage, and human tragedy of the movement: a wounded teenager, Golam Nafiz, being carried on the footrest of a rickshaw after he was shot near Farmgate in Dhaka.

This documentary features an exclusive interview with Nur Mohammad, the rickshaw driver who tried to get Nafiz to a hospital despite police pressure, political intimidation, and the violence unfolding around him. Through his testimony, we revisit one of the most haunting moments of the uprising and the ordinary citizen who refused to abandon an injured student.

Golam Nafiz, 17, had recently passed his SSC exams with a GPA-5 and was beginning a new chapter of life. The now-famous photograph taken during the incident helped his family identify and locate him after the violence of that day. Later, Nur Mohammad’s rickshaw became part of the July Uprising Memory Museum, turning a working vehicle into a historical artifact of Bangladesh’s democratic struggle.
