Summary

In the heart of the July Uprising of 2024, when Bangladesh was trembling under state repression, one journalist from Sylhet paid the ultimate price for telling the truth — Abu Taher Md Turab.

This documentary takes us to his home in Biyanibazar, Sylhet, where his mother and younger brother recount the final hours of a son who never stopped reporting, even as gunshots echoed through the streets. Wearing a PRESS vest and helmet, Turab stood fearlessly with his camera until police opened fire, hitting him with nearly 100 shotgun pellets.

Through the voices of his grieving family, we revisit the tragedy that unfolded on 19 July 2024, when police bullets turned the Sylhet streets into a war zone. Their memories reveal a painful yet powerful portrait of a journalist who refused to step back, a man who believed that the truth must be documented no matter the risk.

This film is part of July Council’s archival effort to preserve the untold human stories of the July Uprising, and to honor those who gave their lives for justice, accountability, and Bangladesh’s democratic rebirth.
